Second World Summit for Social Development 2025 to convene in Doha, Qatar
The United Nations will host the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, from 4–6 November 2025, with pre-summit events on 3 November at the Qatar National Convention Centre. Convened under UN General Assembly Resolutions 78/261 and 78/318, the summit will gather Heads of State and Government, alongside representatives from international organizations, civil society, academia, the private sector, and the UN system, to advance global social development priorities.
Thirty years after the landmark 1995 Copenhagen Summit for Social Development, the Doha summit aims to recommit the international community to the Copenhagen Declaration and the Programme of Action, while accelerating implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In a world facing deepening inequalities, demographic shifts, and rapid technological and environmental changes, the summit offers a critical platform for dialogue, collaboration, and actionable solutions to ensure that no one is left behind.
The summit will focus on advancing the 10 Commitments established in 1995, including poverty eradication, full employment, decent work, and social inclusion. Leaders will explore strategies to build resilient, equitable, and sustainable societies, strengthening partnerships and promoting inclusive policies that foster opportunity for all.
By convening governments, international organizations, UN agencies, civil society, cooperatives, academic institutions, and the private sector, the Second World Summit for Social Development will serve as a pivotal forum for cooperation, sharing expertise, and fostering innovative approaches to social progress worldwide. The event underscores the UN’s commitment to inclusive social development and the continued pursuit of global social justice and equity in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
