According to Ukrainian media, authorities from the Mykolaiv Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) detained the Ukrainian man who had been working as Jolie’s driver during the visit.

“Sources within the Ukrainian Ground Forces told UNIAN that the Hollywood actress’s driver did not have his military documents with him during the inspection. He was taken to the TCC to verify his military status, where it was discovered that he was a reserve officer without valid grounds for deferment,” local reports stated.

After the matter was clarified, Jolie continued her planned route. “Neither she nor her representatives interfered with the TCC’s activities,” the sources added.

During her visit, Angelina Jolie met with children in shelters and toured several medical facilities, including a children’s hospital and a maternity ward.

Jolie has been a public supporter of Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. In April 2022, she made a voluntary visit to Lviv, where she met children injured in the Kramatorsk railway attack and spoke with displaced families at the city’s train station.

In a previous statement, Jolie said she was deeply moved by “the resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people.”

Angelina Jolie joins a list of international celebrities who have visited Ukraine since the war began, including Sean Penn and Liev Schreiber.
