The agreement was signed by Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the NIA, and Corina Truica, President of the Board of Directors at Romatom, during the World Nuclear Exhibition in Paris on Tuesday, 4 November.

The MoU outlines priority areas for collaboration between the UK and Romanian nuclear sectors, including large-scale reactor projects, small modular reactor (SMR) development, fusion research, decommissioning and waste management, and the production of medical radioisotopes.

According to both organizations, the partnership aims to boost industrial links, enhance technical exchange, and promote the inclusion of nuclear technologies in bilateral and multilateral dialogues. It also supports shared efforts to expand the peaceful and economic use of nuclear energy and radioisotopes worldwide.

“We look forward to working more closely with our Romanian colleagues to boost nuclear capacity for energy security and net zero,” said Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the NIA. “By sharing expertise and strengthening industrial links, we can accelerate nuclear deployment and create opportunities for both our countries. This agreement marks an important step in supporting a cleaner, more secure energy future together.”

Corina Truica, President of Romatom, emphasized the long-term significance of the partnership:

“Romania and the UK share a strong commitment to nuclear energy as clean, reliable power and a pillar of energy security. With today’s agreement, we are laying the groundwork for practical cooperation—linking supply chains, accelerating innovation, and building education and skills—to deliver tangible benefits for both countries.”

The cooperation will target joint opportunities in the UK, Romania, and international markets, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to clean energy transition and global nuclear innovation leadership.
