An 85-year-old man from western France accidentally drove nearly 1,500 kilometers and ended up in Croatia after setting out for a doctor's appointment in a neighboring town.

The pensioner had left his home intending to drive to the town of Ervo, located just 25 kilometers away. However, he completely lost his orientation and continued driving eastward, failing to notice that he had exited France and crossed several European borders in succession, according to the Belgian publication Nieuwsblad.

The man drove for a reported 24 hours without stopping. When he was eventually found, he was located at a hotel in Croatia. He told the press that he could not understand "how this could have happened" and insisted that he had never previously experienced memory or orientation problems.

Initially, his absence did not cause alarm. However, friends alerted the police after he failed to show up for a scheduled meeting. Authorities were able to locate the man by tracking his mobile phone signal. The pensioner is now safe and awaiting arrangements to be taken home.
