Punjab Launches AI-Driven E-Learning Platform to Modernize Punjabi Language Education

Chandigarh: In a major step to promote Punjabi language learning through technology, the Punjab government has initiated the development of a fully AI-assisted digital e-learning platform for Punjabi. The platform aims to modernize language education, integrating artificial intelligence into content creation, delivery, and learner evaluation, making learning more accessible, engaging, and globally relevant for domestic and international learners via mobile and web platforms.

Curriculum and Content

The platform will feature high-quality interactive video lessons of 12–15 minutes each, totaling 25–30 hours of instruction for basic Punjabi. The curriculum covers the Gurmukhi script, essential vocabulary, basic grammar, pronunciation, sentence construction, and everyday communication. Each module will include knowledge checks, quizzes, pronunciation exercises, and downloadable worksheets to strengthen comprehension and engagement.

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar is spearheading the project and has begun engaging a specialized firm to design AI-enabled content and digital infrastructure for interactive Punjabi learning. Lessons will be available in both Punjabi (Gurmukhi) and English, produced with professional audio, video, and animation standards in high definition (1080p).

Learning Management System and Features

GNDU will establish a Learning Management System (LMS) integrated with mobile applications (iOS and Android) and a browser-based platform. Features will include:

  • Student lifecycle management (enrollment, fee collection, attendance tracking, grievance redressal, performance dashboards)

  • AI-assisted remote proctoring for secure online exams, quizzes, and assignments

  • Identity verification, browser lockdown, anomaly detection, and live or recorded invigilation

  • Automated result processing and transcript generation

The platform will also support branched video lessons with decision points, allowing personalized learning paths. Incorrect answers trigger automatic corrective segments, while correct responses ensure smooth progression. Detailed data analytics will track user choices, completion rates, and performance outcomes.

AI-Powered Personalized Learning

Artificial intelligence will enhance the learning experience through adaptive learning paths, real-time pronunciation analysis, and instant feedback to improve fluency and accuracy. Engagement features include leaderboards, achievement badges, and AI-driven analytics to motivate learners and improve course completion rates.

All modules will comply with global e-learning standards such as SCORM 1.2 and xAPI (Tin Can API), enabling advanced tracking, offline access, and interoperability with other educational systems.

AI Integration in Schools

The Punjab government is simultaneously introducing AI in government schools to modernize classrooms and align learning with global educational standards. A grade-wise AI curriculum for Classes VI to XII will focus on:

  • AI ethics

  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Coding and robotics

  • Data literacy

The curriculum will be supported by textbooks, workbooks, project-based activities, and interactive digital tools, available in English and Punjabi, bridging the gap between traditional teaching methods and global benchmarks.

This initiative represents a significant push towards tech-driven, student-centered learning, combining language proficiency with AI literacy to prepare Punjab’s youth for a digitally empowered future.
